Offcuts Lamp, 2024 (12” X 5” X 18”)

Reclaimed Poplar, White Oak, Walnut, Pacari, and unknown wood.

Offcuts Lamp” is a journal that showcases different histories through wood, consisting of various species including, but not limited to, White Oak, Pacari and some unknown. Each laminated piece has a different story to tell from redwood reincarnated from a former lunch table top found on the last days teaching woodworking at the last charter school Berkeley as it was getting shut down, to the offcuts from a scrap bin of a 5 year running studio started by two friends that ran into each other at the bank coincidentally cashing their last paychecks and decided to combine resources such as tools inherited from teaching the last Studio H class in order to start a design-build school. I wanted to create this piece as a way to “shed light” on a celebration of salvaged wood.

Offcuts” consists of various pieces of wood, that are referred to as “offcuts” by the design and building community regarding their ability to literally be cut off. Pieces from this series are altered and can take on different arrangements or functions.
